About the surroundings, you can surely say one thing: "Fantastic to rest."
Slenaken (in Limburgian language: Sjlennich) is a village in the area of Gulpen-Wittem in the south of Limburg, near the Belgian border. It is situated in a valley where the river Gulp flows, with Loorberg on the north side in the direction of Epen and on the south side the border with the Belgian village of Teuven.
Because the village is located in the hills of South Limburg, Slenaken is a popular place for tourists. The Mergellandroute passes through Slenaken and the village is well located for hiking and cycling activities.
There are also several marked cycle and hiking routes. One of the walking routes is Krijtlandpad, which runs through the village and the surroundings.
Not far from the border with Belgium, you will find the "Hoge Venen" which can always be hiked and in the winter you can also norway-walking.
The Abbey Val Dieu (Aubel, Belgium) with the famous beers and cheeses is for sure worth to be visited.
